Immersions and Retreats

God is good all the time. All the time God is good.

We welcome first time and recurring groups to join us at any time throughout the year. Some groups have been coming back for decades! Group sizes vary widely from about 5 to 14 participants. See our rates and accommodations page for more information on planning your visit or contact us now to get more details or make a reservation!

At Big Laurel, we invite visiting groups to be part of our mission and community. We encourage volunteers and guests to join us in living simply, serving others, asking hard questions, challenging stereotypes, and being present to the world around us.

We strive to include a variety of the following themes during immersion and service trips:

  • Environmental Sustainability

  • Biodiversity in the Appalachian Forests

  • Building on Successes: Community Development

  • Celebrating Appalachian Culture

  • Coal Mining and Labor History in WV

  • Spirituality and Finding God in Nature

  • Service to the Community

Not sure what to expect at Big Laurel? Are you still deciding if an immersion trip is the right choice for you? Check out our Alternative Break Overview (for prospective students and parents) to find out more!
